Musical Rube Goldberg Workshop

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The Forge Initiative invites students of all ages to explore sequencing, timing, and mechanics using Rube Goldberg Machine constructions.

Webster's Dictionary added "Rube Goldberg" to its listing, defining it as “a comically involved, complicated invention, laboriously contrived to perform a simple operation." But Rube Goldberg’s "inventions," drawn for our pleasure, can actually work. By inventing excessively complex ways to accomplish simple tasks, he entertained us and poked fun at the gadgets designed to make our lives easier.

Sequencing, timing and mechanics are critical engineering skills that are just as important in the world of music and art. The students will be using these materials to explore both basic and advanced mechanical and programming concepts by building hands on "Musical Rube Goldberg" machines. Complexity can vary between simple domino runs to complex mechanisms.

** This session is free and open to the public as part of Moogfest’s STEAM program. A festival ticket is not required.

This workshop is limited in capacity and offered on a first come, first served basis. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to start time. Entrance is not guaranteed.

If you would like to pre-register, you can do so directly with The Forge at http://theforgedowntown.org/moogfest
