Erika M. Anderson (EMA) is a musician and multimedia artist.  She grew up fronting teenage punk bands in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before moving to Los Angeles and forming the disaster-folk noise duo Gowns with Ezra Buchla.  After becoming fixtures in the west coast experimental scene, Gowns disbanded, and Anderson released her first solo album, Past Life Martyred Saints, to critical acclaim.  In 2014 she released her second full-length album, The Future’s Void, on Matador Records.  Since then Anderson has also put out various multimedia work via the online platform NewHive and scored the Chloe Sevigny society piece / slasher flick #HORROR.
Her most recent practice has involved durational museum performances combining text, music, and virtual reality.  In 2015 she wrote and performed several such pieces including I Wanna Destroy and Sacred Objects From Suburban Homes at PS1 MoMA, The New Museum and The Barbican Centre in London.
