Hieroglyphic Being
Hieroglyphic Being, aka Jamal Moss, has long been a pillar of the modern Chicago house scene. He was a protégé of house legend Adonis, and his roots in Chicago house extend back to Ron Hardy, who in the mid-1980s picked up Frankie Knuckles’s baton at the storied Warehouse (renamed Music Box) and brought the scene to full bloom. In the late 80s and early 90s, Moss was part of the posse that kicked off the legendary Liquid Love and then Liquid Sex parties. In the mid-90s, he hosted and deejayed for WNUR'S 89.3 StreetBeat Program, and showcased the JACK-FM segment. In 2004, his former group the Dirty Criminals was voted URB Magazine’s Top 100 as a Group. More recent solo work such as “The Fourth Dimensions of a Nubian Mystic” show Hieroglyphic Being continuing to mine ancient languages for undiscovered grooves.
