Mike Dean

To follow Mike Dean’s itinerary as a producer is to turn rap’s geographical history on its head and spin it like the freshest Bronx b-boy. A native of Houston, Texas, Dean manned the boards at Rap-A-Lot records, producing for pioneering Houston rap acts such as the Geto Boys, Scarface, UGK, and Devin the Dude. He also worked with Tejano music legend Selena, as well as West Coast artists such as Tha Dogg Pound and Seagram. Dean’s most notable collaboration in this millennium has been with Chicago’s Kanye West. He has worked with West since mixing Scarface’s West-produced 2002 rap radio earworm “Guess Who’s Back” (which also featured Brooklyn’s Jay Z and Philly’s Beanie Sigel), and contributed to West’s albums Graduation, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the West-Jay Z collabo Watch the Throne, and Yeezus.
