Rea McNamara is an artist, writer, and curator focusing on the on/offline statuses of niches and subcultures. Her writing has been published in Art + Auction Magazine, BLOUIN ARTINFO, The National Post, FASHION Magazine, Little Brother Magazine and more. Currently, she is a senior editor at Art F City, writing and curating content on the blog and IRL.

Based in Toronto, McNamara has developed an expanded practice that includes space development, image making, performance and critical engagement with networked publics. She curates multidisciplinary projects and limited-run event series, including Sheroes, which has been recognized as a pioneering GIF event. From 2014 to 2015, she was the cultural programmer at Toronto’s Drake Hotel, curating exhibitions, events, performances, and residencies.

Her work has been exhibited, screened, and presented at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Drake Hotel, Studio XX, TRANSFER, Nuit Blanche, Electric Picnic, Whippersnapper Gallery, Cinecycle and more. Recent curatorial projects include the BiWay Art Foundation, an online pavilion for the Wrong Digital Art Biennale (2015-2016) which was selected as one of the best 25 shows of 2015 by AFC, and an upcoming event at Toronto’s Music Gallery in 2016.
